What happened

The day after the reveal, Blizzard listed a Lead UI Engineer for the game, requisition R028154. Among the duties: “optimize user interface performance, memory usage, and platform compatibility for PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.” [A]

No announcement has named PlayStation. Blizzard’s position in public is that Xbox was named at the reveal and that the game is not exclusive, without a full platform list. [C]

A second listing, and why it is weaker

A listing for a gameplay engineer on missions asks for experience “developing and shipping AAA game titles for PC, Xbox, and PlayStation consoles”. [B] That one describes a candidate’s past. The UI listing describes work on this game, which makes it the stronger of the two.

The listing since

On 6 October Blizzard’s careers site showed the UI role as filled. By 17 October it was taking applications again, with the platform line unchanged, and it was still open on 21 October. [A] At the end of October a listing for the World Systems team added “Shipping games on multiple platforms, including consoles” to its extra points, which names no console. That report is here.

What it does not establish

Hiring for platform compatibility tells you what a team is being built to support today. It does not commit anyone to a launch on that platform, and it says nothing about console generations. PlayStation moves from “nothing to go on” to “named in Blizzard’s hiring”. It stays unconfirmed, and the platform row in our sourced overview says so.
